2009 Silver Eagles

Silver Coin Information
The 2009 American Silver Eagle was issued during an environment of high demand for precious meals bullion coins. This had impacts on the bullion coin offering as well as the collector versions of the coin that are typically offered.
The 2009 Silver Eagle bullion coin achieved record annual sales with an astounding 28,766,500 coins sold during the year. This exceeded the previous record annual high of 19583,500 coins by a wide margin. The bullion coins were available throughout the year, except for a brief suspension from November 24 to December 5. The US Mint imposed its allocation program, which limited the number of coins available to authorized purchasers from January 1 to June 15 and from December 5 to the end of the year.
Collectible versions typically available for the American Silver Eagle were not offered for 2009. The United States Mint announced in October that the 2009 Proof Silver Eagle and 2009-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle were canceled. They cited the high demand for bullion coins and their legal obligation to produce them in quantities sufficient to meet public demand. No such legal requirement exists for the collectible versions of the coins.
This represented the first time that a proof version was not produced since the American Silver Eagle series began in 1986. The collectible uncirculated version of the coin had been offered in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
