Coin Information:

2010 Yellowstone National Park Silver Bullion Coin

Coin Information

The Yellowstone National Park 5 oz. Silver Bullion Coin will be one of the first five releases of the United States Mint's new bullion coin series. For at least the first year of issue, maximum mintage levels will be extremely low in comparison to the projected demand.

The design for the oversized bullion coin will be a duplicate of the Yellowstone Quarter. The reverse presents an image of the famous geyser "Old Faithful" as it erupts, with American Bison roaming in the foreground and background. The obverse carries a portrait of George Washington, as it originally appeared on the 1932 Washington Quarter. Additional elements on the bullion coin include incused lettering which indicates "5.0 ounces .999 fine silver".

The Yellowstone Silver Bullion coins will be issued through the US Mint's authorized purchaser network. The coins are sold at the market price of silver plus a markup, and then more broadly distributed throughout the secondary market. A collector version of the coin with an uncirculated finish and "P" mint mark will be available for sale at a later date directly from the United States Mint.

Unique aspects of the series include the unusually low legal tender face value of 25 cents, the wide 3 inch diameter, and the large 5.0 troy ounce bullion weight. No other U.S. bullion coins carry these attributes.
