Gold Kangaroo

Gold Coin Information

The Australian Gold Kangaroo is produced by the Perth Mint. The coins are minted in .9999 pure gold and carry a legal tender face value. The bullion coins are minted with a two tone, proof like finish.

The Gold Kangaroo was originally referred to as the Australian Gold Nugget. The series of gold bullion coins was initially released in 1986 to feature reverse images of different gold nuggets. Starting in 1989, the reverse design began to feature a different image of a kangaroo. Along with the Chinese Gold Panda, this is one of two world gold bullion coins which features a different design each year. The obverse of the coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Gold Kangaroo has been produced in sizes of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kg. This is a wider variety of sizes than the typical bullion coin, specifically the larger sizes above one ounce, which are offered to provide a low premium method for acquiring larger amounts of gold bullion.

The larger sizes gold bullion coins are issued by the Perth Mint in protective plastic cases. The smaller sizes such as 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz sizes come shrink wrapped with 20 coins together.
