New Mexico State Quarter

Coin Information
The New Mexico State Quarter was released on April 7, 2008. This was the 47th coin in the State Quarter series, continuing final year of the series. A launch ceremony was held in the Capitol Rotunda in Santa Fe.
The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins, based on the original Washington Quarter obverse designed by John Flanagan. It includes the inscriptions "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar." The mint mark is also included to the right of Washington. This design has been used for the obverse of every coin in the State Quarter series.
The reverse of the coin was designed and engraved by Don Everhart. It features the Zia Sun Symbol which represents the giver of all good who provided gifts in groups of four. This overlays a topographical map of New Mexico. Inscriptions include "E Pluribus Unum," "New Mexico," "Land of Enchantment," and the dates 1912 and 2008.
The Philadelphia mint produced 244.2 million coins and the Denver mint produced 244.4 million. Proof and silver proof versions of the coin were produced at the San Francisco Mint.
