Coin Information:

Oklahoma State Quarter

Coin Information

The Oklahoma State Quarter was released on January 28, 2008. This was the 46th coin in the State Quarter series. It also started the final year of the State Quarter series. A launch ceremony was held at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City.

The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins, based on the original Washington Quarter obverse designed by John Flanagan. It includes the inscriptions "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar." The mint mark is also included to the right of Washington. This design has been used for the obverse of every coin in the State Quarter series.

The reverse of the coin was designed by Susan Gamble and engraved by Phebe Hemphill. It features the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Oklahoma's State Bird. Beneath the bird Oklahoma's state wildflower called the Indian Blanket appears. Inscriptions include "E Pluribus Unum," "Oklahoma," and the dates 1907 and 2008.

The Philadelphia mint produced 222 million and the Denver mint produced 194.6 million Oklahoma Quarters. Proof and silver proof versions of the coin were produced at the San Francisco Mint.
